Fucoxanthin Nutritional Supplement

If you're fond of different products that help to lose weight, then you will find an amount of information about Fucoxanthin in the Internet. This is a type of carotenoid found naturally in edible brown algae hijiki (Hijikia fusiformis) and wakame (Undaria pinnatifida). The brown seaweed is the richest source of fucoxanthin. Red algae and green algae contain much smaller amounts of it. So if you're a fan of the Asian cuisine, miso soup or Japanese sushi rolls, then fucoxanthin is in your ration.

Today you can easily find and hijiki and wakame in Japanese specialty stores or in some health food stores. Besides, this is not a problem them online. Fucoxanthin can be found as a nutritional supplement in capsule form.

Although there are few studies on the effect of fucoxanthin on weight loss, it's not fully understood how it actually works. Fucoxanthin appears to target a protein UCP1 that increases the speed at which abdominal fat is burned. Abdominal fat (white adipose tissue) surrounds the organs of the body and can cause diabetes and heart disease. In addition, fucoxanthin stimulates the production of DHA (omega-3 fatty acid found in such fish as salmon).

Today fucoxanthin is quite popular as a nutritional supplement. But more research is needed to determine if it works the same way in humans as it works in animals. Thus, if the research proves that it works, then fucoxanthin could be developed into a diet pill for obesity.

As for possible side effects of fucoxanthin, they are not yet known. Again, it happens because there has not been much research on fucoxanthin in humans. Anyway, people should not consume large amounts of hijiki or other types of algae as a source of fucoxanthin. Keep in mind that seaweeds are rich in iodine and excessive consumption can cause iodine poisoning. In addition, high levels of iodine can interfere with the functioning of the thyroid gland. Moreover, consuming excess amounts of iodine-rich foods is not recommended if there is an allergy or known hypersensitivity to iodine.
